Youth Education Through Sports, Inc. (“YES Inc.”), founded in 1980, is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt, 501 (c)(3), New York State corporation based in Harlem. YES Inc. motivates and assists college interested and college-bound student-athletes to complete high school “on-time” and qualify for college admission, athletic and academic scholarships. Through its SMARTBALL Initiative (College Prep and Supplementary Educational Services), YES Inc. prepares student-athletes to score competitively on the College Admissions Tests (SAT & ACT); meet the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (“NCAA”) freshman eligibility requirements and ultimately make the successful transitions from high school to college to careers.
YES Inc. works in partnership with the Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME) at Teachers College, Columbia University, The College Board, iTutor and the NCAA Team Works Community Based Organizations and Grassroots/AAU programs across the five boroughs of New York City. There is an ever growing need in our society to help student-athletes to move beyond their athletic prowess to achieve significantly in the classroom and develop as leaders. That is what YES Inc. is about…developing future leaders. We want to direct student student-athletes who are fortunate to go on to become collegiate and professional athletes and successful people, to set a positive example for our youths and to become unselfish and positive leaders in society.
YES Inc. and its SMARTBALL Initiative specifically work with high schools (public and parochial) and their interscholastic (varsity) student-athletes who have made the conscious decision to pursue going to college. We help prepare them to successfully compete at the college level both as athletes and scholars.
